Recorded in a makeshift home studio using budget equipment, The Importance of Being Shackleton is an true independent project from beginning to end. Inspired by the great Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton and the musician's home city of Houston, the album is a thematic juxtaposition of the restless spirit of adventure and the beauty and grit of the city. Folksy songwriting meets jam band spontaneity meets the DIY and countercultural ethos of punk rock.
